More often than not, people resort to dieting and starving themselves just to lose weight. Others do yoga and visit the gym. Gym equipments such as dumbbells, treadmills and elliptical trainers are available to gym buffs.

Elliptical trainers are often second best next to treadmills especially in warm up exercise. But what people don’t know is that elliptical trainer was first used in 1990s. This machine was conceptualized so that there will be less joint strains when a person is running. Moreover, it enhances the cardiovascular system as well as the upper and lower body. It is not used though to develop and make muscles leaner. This equipment is not powered by electrical wiring so it can run on its own.

Doing an elliptical workout is easy. It is just like walking in mid-air because there are foot pedals where you position your feet. The movement is like walking or jumping wherein the ankle, the knee and the hips are congruent to each other. Unlike using the treadmill when running or walking, the elliptical trainer reduces the risk of injury such as straining. Although in the beginning it can be difficult for the user because muscle pain is evident in the thigh and leg area. But this will not be a problem for long for the user will soon be able to adjust to the work out this machine provides. Soon enough, he or she will be able to explore the different exercise program offered by the elliptical trainer such as climbing exercise. This equipment also has a wireless control that records the person’s heart rate which will dictate what exercise program to work on according to the person’s level of resistance.

Although both treadmill and elliptical trainer are used to improve the cardiovascular system, the treadmill focuses more on the lower body part and it is best used when training for a marathon. The elliptical trainer on the other hand offers a complete body workout. This machine burns up calories and fats faster than using the treadmill. It also develops the quadriceps, hamstrings and even the glutenous. When using the elliptical trainer for a longer time, the muscles will be leaner and the rate of calories burning is faster. In fact, a recent study shows that the less impact on the joints which is what is happening when using the trainer burns the same calories when using the treadmill. Little did the person know that he or she is shedding off weight without putting too much effort and sweating that much.

There are actually quite many people who have seen the big change in their body built when they start using the elliptical trainer. There is a considerable amount of pounds lost. The machine entails the person to have endurance in workouts and losing weight comes easier.  This prompts many people to use the elliptical trainer more often when exercising.
